From the cover of ‘Paid in Full,’ to Jay Z’s ‘Blueprint,’ a small boutique in Harlem left an indelible print on hip hop, flashy and memorable as the double Gs that Rakim and Eric B. wore like an S on their chests.

In the March 2013 issue of the New Yorker, Kalefa Sanneh, gives Dapper Dan his due in probably the highest profile shout out since Jay Z spit: “Wear a G on my chest, I don’t need Dapper Dan/This ain’t a sewn outfit, holmes, holmes is about it”
